Job Description:

Our client is seeking an Product Manager - Mobile Devices (Retail) to join their team. The Product Manager - Mobile Devices (Retail)– is responsible for defining and delivering software and hardware-enabled solutions that empower stores, franchisees, and field operations teams to operate more effectively. 

This role will have primary responsibility for mobile device hardware and software support, including handheld mobile scanners, tablets, device applications, and the supporting device-management experience. The role will also support other capabilities across and the broader Store Systems ecosystem. 

As a Product Manager, you will own key capabilities across the mobile device experience, including device lifecycle, application availability, scanning functionality, device onboarding, software updates, supportability, and field readiness. You will partner closely with store and field leaders, UX, engineering, hardware and software vendors, IT, and business stakeholders to ensure mobile solutions are reliable, intuitive, scalable, and aligned to real-world operational needs. 

This role is highly stakeholder-focused and requires strong organization, communication, and facilitation skills to translate complex store, hardware, software, and operational challenges into scalable product solutions. 

About the Team:

  • The Store Systems team is responsible for building and evolving and related capabilities that support daily store operations, including store data, item and pricing workflows, inventory, ordering, promotions, operational execution, and mobile experiences used by store associates. 
  • The team also supports the mobile device ecosystem that brings capabilities into the store, including handheld scanners, tablets, device applications, scanning technologies, connectivity, device management, and software distribution. These capabilities help stores complete inventory, ordering, receiving, task, training, and other operational workflows from the sales floor and back office. 
  • These tools and devices are critical to simplifying store execution, improving productivity, increasing visibility into operational performance, and enabling more efficient decision-making for stores, franchisees, field teams, and the broader business. 
  • Our mission is to reduce operational complexity, increase store and field productivity, and deliver reliable systems and devices that help stores execute at the highest level. 

What You’ll Do:

  • Own and evolve product strategy for mobile device hardware and software support, including handheld scanners, tablets, device applications, and related Store Systems tools 
  • Translate store, field operations, franchisee, and business needs into a clear product vision, roadmap, and prioritized backlog 
  • Identify opportunities to simplify store operations and improve efficiency through reliable mobile devices, applications, and integrated digital solutions 

Mobile Device Hardware & Software Support:

  • Own the product lifecycle for mobile devices, from hardware requirements, evaluation, and onboarding through deployment, upgrades, support, replacement, and retirement 
  • Define requirements for handheld scanners, tablets, accessories, charging solutions, connectivity, ergonomics, durability, battery life, and store-ready device experiences 
  • Ensure and related applications are available, usable, and reliable across supported mobile device form factors and operating-system versions 
  • Partner with engineering and hardware vendors on device-specific capabilities, scanner SDKs, barcode scanning behavior, hardware triggers, peripherals, and compatibility testing 
  • Drive resolution of device, application, scanning, connectivity, performance, and usability issues that affect stores or field teams 

Device Management, Onboarding & Supportability:

  • Define and improve device onboarding, provisioning, configuration, application distribution, update, security, and support workflows 
  • Partner with IT and engineering teams on mobile device management capabilities, including remote application installation, configuration, upgrades, device health, compliance, monitoring, and troubleshooting 
  • Establish clear operational processes for device enrollment, store assignment, replacement, incident management, and lifecycle tracking 
  • Use device health data, support trends, and field feedback to identify systemic issues and improve the reliability of the mobile device fleet 

Store Operations & Enablement:

  • Build and enhance mobile capabilities that support store teams in completing daily workflows, including inventory scanning, ordering, receiving, write-offs, shelf and product management, training, and operational execution 
  • Improve workflow efficiency by reducing manual effort, device switching, paper-based processes, and redundant steps across, and connected systems 
  • Partner with store, field, and business stakeholders to deeply understand operational pain points and translate them into scalable mobile solutions 

Workflow & Systems Innovation:

  • Drive integration across POS, device-management platforms, enterprise systems, and external vendor platforms to create a seamless operational experience 
  • Optimize user experience for handheld, tablet, mobile, desktop, and store-floor workflows 
  • Evaluate opportunities to automate, streamline, and improve operational processes through better device connectivity, application availability, and data access 

Stakeholder Management & Execution:

  • Act as the primary point of contact across Store Systems, operations, product, technology, IT, hardware and software vendors, field teams, and leadership stakeholders 
  • Facilitate alignment across diverse teams, ensuring clarity on priorities, timelines, dependencies, risks, tradeoffs, and support responsibilities 
  • Clearly articulate product decisions, roadmap updates, device readiness, support needs, and outcomes to both technical and non-technical audiences 

Product Delivery & Agile Execution:

  • Write and refine user stories, manage backlog grooming, and participate in sprint planning and execution 
  • Work closely with engineering, architecture, design, QA, IT, vendors, and business partners to deliver high-quality, scalable hardware-enabled software solutions 
  • Lead device and application testing, pilot validation, rollout, operational readiness, training, and adoption efforts for new devices, applications, integrations, and enhancements 

Data, Insights & Continuous Improvement:

  • Define and track KPIs related to device availability, device health, application adoption, scanning performance, support volume, rollout completion, workflow efficiency, and store or field outcomes 
  • Leverage device telemetry, system performance information, support data, and user feedback to continuously refine mobile workflows and product experiences 
  • Identify opportunities to automate, streamline, and improve device and operational support processes based on performance insights 

What You’ll Bring:

  • 3–5 years of product management experience, preferably in enterprise tools, mobile applications, hardware-enabled software, device management, workflow systems, or retail technology 
  • Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence across business, technical, vendor, IT, and field teams 
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate complex hardware, software, operational, and support concepts 
  • Experience working in Agile environments, including backlog management and sprint execution 
  • Experience defining or delivering mobile applications, device integrations, scanning capabilities, APIs, data exchanges, or connected workflows is strongly preferred 
  • Analytical mindset with experience using data, telemetry, operational metrics, or support trends to drive decisions and prioritize work 
  • Familiarity with handheld scanners, tablets, mobile device management, workflow management, or retail operations is a strong plus 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting retail, field operations, franchise environments, store systems, mobile devices, hardware rollouts, or workforce-management tools 
  • Experience working with hardware and software vendors and coordinating device, application, or integration delivery across multiple organizations 
  • Exposure to mobile device management, application distribution, device health monitoring, scanner SDKs, barcode scanning, reporting tools, dashboards, operational analytics, or support platforms 
  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical, business, or related field (MBA or advanced degree a plus) 

Salary/Rate: $50-$55/HR (depends on experience level). This is a contract position with candidates expected to work 40 hours/ week.
