Job Description
Our client is seeking a Engineering Manager to join their team. The platform works, and it carries the weight of accumulated decisions. The work is a mix of reimplementation and genuine greenfield development. Some of it means pulling that logic out of the database into tested services on Postgres. Some of it means building new systems from scratch as separate portals consolidate into one modular platform with agentic AI built in from the start.
This role runs that work day to day and still writes a real share of the code. You'll lead our US full stack engineers directly and serve as the US point of contact for our wholly owned engineering subsidiary in India. Expect to spend around 40% of your time hands-on. The rest goes to planning and delivery with the Director of Technical Product, and to holding both teams to the same engineering bar. You report to the CTO, who is technical and reads code and specs directly. The Director of Technical Product defines what we build and why. You're accountable for how it gets built and whether it ships well.
What you'll own:
First-year priorities:
1. Ship code to production in your first two weeks, and deliver a written assessment of engineering practices across both teams in your first 90 days, with a ranked list of what changes first
2. Put written standards for code review and definition of done in place across both teams, with baseline delivery metrics reviewed weekly with the CTO and Director of Technical Product
3. Get handoffs between the US and India to the point where the time difference no longer costs a day
4. Move the highest-revenue stored-procedure logic into application code, verified against existing reporting, with a staffed plan for the rest
5. Improve lead time and change failure rate measurably against your 90-day baseline, and get a growth plan in place for every engineer on both teams
Required qualifications:
Preferred qualifications:
Salary/Rate: $60-$75/HR (depends on experience level). This is a contract position with candidates expected to work 40 hours/ week.
