Job Description:

We are seeking a Senior Windows Infrastructure Migration Engineer to support a large-scale modernization initiative involving the migration of legacy applications from Windows Server 2008 to Windows Server 2019/2022 in an IaaS environment. This role requires deep expertise in IIS, Windows Services, and Microsoft-based application stacks, along with strong troubleshooting and cross-team collaboration skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and support migration of applications from Windows Server 2008 to 2019/2022 within an IaaS environment
  • Migrate and validate IIS-hosted applications, Windows Services, and related components
  • Assess and update application dependencies, including SQL Server connections, instances, and configurations
  • Evaluate and migrate message queue technologies (MSMQ or equivalent) ensuring minimal disruption
  • Identify compatibility issues, migration risks, and define remediation strategies
  • Document current-state architecture, migration approach, and post-migration configurations
  • Collaborate closely with DevOps, Development, Infrastructure, and Security teams throughout the lifecycle
  • Perform testing, troubleshooting, and performance validation post-migration

Required Skills & Experience:

  • 8+ years of experience in Windows infrastructure and application migration
  • Strong hands-on expertise in IIS administration, configuration, and troubleshooting
  • Proven experience migrating applications across Windows Server versions (legacy to modern)
  • Deep understanding of Windows Services (installation, configuration, debugging)
  • Solid knowledge of SQL Server (connection strings, authentication, permissions, service accounts)
  • Experience with message queue systems (MSMQ, IBM MQ, or similar)
  • Strong troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and problem-solving skills
  • Familiarity with Microsoft technology stack (.NET applications, Windows environments)
  • Working knowledge of Active Directory and networking fundamentals

Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills:

  • Experience with CI/CD tools such as TeamCity and Octopus Deploy
  • Exposure to Azure services and Infrastructure-as-Code tools (e.g., Terraform)
  • Proficiency in PowerShell scripting for automation and configuration
  • Understanding of enterprise change management processes
  • Awareness of security best practices in infrastructure and application migration

Soft Skills:

  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Ability to work independently and within cross-functional teams
  • Detail-oriented with a structured and methodical approach
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting mindset
  • Adaptability and willingness to learn new technologies

Rate: $50-$65/hour (depends on experience level). This is a contract position with candidates expected to work 40 hours/ week.
