Job Description:

Our client is seeking a Senior Technical Product Manager to lead their Platform Foundation product area, building the core capabilities that make it easy for engineering teams to ship safely and quickly. In this role, you’ll shape a unified self-service experience across our developer portal, APIs, and CLI, and drive cloud foundations and governance, platform API management, environment automation, and event-driven operations. You’ll partner across engineering, infrastructure, and security to deliver secure-by-default guardrails, reusable templates, and reliable automation that reduce manual tickets and improve adoption at scale.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Learn what engineering teams need by talking with them, watching how they work, and checking what others are doing in the market.
  • Work with both teams and outside specialists to decide which product features matter most.
  • Find, collect, and study data to solve problems for engineers.
  • Build strong working relationships with people from different teams.
  • Turn engineering customer needs into clear requirements and help set the product vision, strategy, and roadmap.
  • Partner with engineering and infrastructure teams to deliver reliable software.
  • Partner with engineering teams on product adoption and achieving desired outcomes.
  • Define and communicate the domain-level product vision and strategy, ensuring that roadmaps align with both technical objectives and business goals across the organization.
  • Collaborate with Directors / Senior Directors of Engineering to align product strategy with organizational goals and technical vision.
  • Lead regular product review sessions with Directors / Senior Directors of Engineering to assess progress, gather, and refine feature priorities.
  • Function Specific: (changes for each posting):
  • Set the product direction and roadmap for Platform Foundations: universal control pane, platform API management, cloud foundations and governance, environment automation, and event-driven automation.
  • Define what Platform Foundations offers and how teams use it (service catalog items, standards, support model, and reliability targets) for self-service workflows, shared APIs, and automated environments.
  • Deliver guardrails and automation that remove manual tickets: secure-by-default foundations, reusable environment templates, and event-driven automation for day-2 operations (for example: drift fixes, renewals,
  • patching, and cleanup).
  • Work closely with the developer portal team and platform engineering teams to deliver one consistent self service experience across the portal, APIs, and CLI (UX, docs, onboarding, and feedback).
  • Run the product cadence: track adoption and reliability metrics, use data and customer feedback to prioritize the backlog, communicate tradeoffs, and drive launches and change management.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Science, Math, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).

Work Experience:

  • 7+ years of experience as a Technical Product Manager, Product Manager, Engineer, or Engineering Manager (or equivalent experience in a technical product or platform environment).
  • Experience working in a cross-functional, matrixed organization.
  • Experience assessing open-source and vendor solutions, including time to market and total cost of ownership.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • You can define a clear technical product vision, create effective product strategies, and build roadmaps for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • You demonstrate entrepreneurial drive and can influence teams and stakeholders.
  • You communicate clearly in writing, speaking, and presentations, and build strong working relationships across teams.
  • You evaluate Open Source and vendor solutions, considering time to market and total cost of ownership.
  • You understand engineering workflows, deployment practices, and facilitate the design of solutions for complex technical problems.
  • You seek continuous improvement and innovation, stay up to date with emerging technologies, and encourage creativity and agility.
  • You work effectively in cross-functional and matrixed organizations, even in ambiguous situations and under tight deadlines.
  • You use strong analytical and quantitative skills to assess relative value and prioritization
  • You guide and motivate team members to achieve results, take ownership of the work, and act with urgency.

Rate: $70-$85/hour (depends on experience level). This is a contract position with candidates expected to work 40 hours/ week.

About Us

Peterson Technology Partners (PTP) is an Equal Opportunity Employer committed to creating a transparent, inclusive, and human-centered hiring experience.

For more than 28 years, PTP has operated as one of the top IT staffing and recruiting firms in the USA—built on trust, long-term partnerships, and technical excellence.

Based in the Chicago suburb of Park Ridge, IL, our team of more than 500 employees and consultants is dedicated to:

  • Helping every client make the best hiring decisions possible
  • Matching professionals with the right IT jobs and career opportunities

As part of that commitment, we believe in providing clear information about how our hiring technologies work and how your data is used. The following section outlines our AI-assisted interview process and your rights as a candidate.

AI-Assisted Interview Experience (Pete & Gabi – Rebecca):

To provide a consistent, fair, and flexible experience for all candidates, we use AI-assisted tools to support parts of the interview process. This includes our proprietary AI platform Pete & Gabi, which includes AI recruiter Rebecca.

These AI hiring tools help us:

  • Transcribe interviews
  • Summarize candidate responses
  • Generate job-related insights
  • Streamline communication and scheduling

Please note that:

  • The AI does NOT make hiring decisions; all decisions are made by our human recruiters, hiring managers, or client partners.
  • The AI does not evaluate facial expressions, emotions, or physical traits; it is used only to support fairness, consistency, and efficiency.

If you prefer a non-AI interview format, we will gladly provide an alternative.

Technical or Case Interviews (Role-Dependent):

When applying for certain tech jobs, you may participate in:

  • A technical interview
  • A coding challenge
  • A case study
  • A client-specific assessment

We will always explain what to expect in advance so you can prepare with confidence.

Human Review & Selection: +

Every candidate’s profile—including interviews, conversations, and assessments—is reviewed by experienced recruiters and hiring leaders.

AI insights may assist with organization and evaluation, but final decisions are always human-driven.

Your Rights as a Candidate: +

At PTP, every candidate has the right to:

  • Request a non-AI interview path
  • Ask how your data is being used
  • Request access to transcripts or interview recordings
  • Request deletion of your AI-recorded interview
  • Receive clear, timely communication

Our goal is to ensure you feel respected, informed, and supported throughout your experience.

Our Commitment: +

For more than 28 years, PTP has focused on putting people first—candidates, consultants, employees, and clients.

We’re committed to a hiring process that is:

  • Transparent
  • Compliant
  • Equitable
  • Powered by innovative technology that enhances—not replaces—human judgment

Welcome to the future of hiring at Peterson Technology Partners.

We’re excited to learn more about you.
