Job Description:

Locations: Chicago, Houston, DC, New York

Our client is seeking for a Manager or IT Financials Operations. The Manager, IT Financial Operations leads day-to-day financial management and governance execution across the Firm’s technology portfolio. This role oversees budgeting, forecasting, portfolio tracking, business case financial review, and reporting activities to ensure accuracy, consistency, and financial discipline. The Manager applies strong operational judgment to identify risks, validate financial assumptions, and maintain reliable portfolio visibility that supports IT planning and investment decisions.

Reporting to the Associate Director, the Manager serves as a primary financial partner to IT stakeholders and leads the operational translation of strategic financial direction into structured, repeatable processes. This role mentors analysts, strengthens governance standards, and continuously improves financial workflows while collaborating closely with IT leadership, Vendor Management, Procurement, and Firm Finance.

Essential Functions (This list is not exhaustive and may be supplemented and changed as necessary.):

Budgeting, Forecasting & Financial Support:

  • Oversee and maintain portfolio financial models, planning trackers, and budget frameworks to ensure consistency and governance discipline across the IT organization.
  • Monitor actuals versus budget and forecast, providing structured variance analysis and identifying key drivers, risks, and emerging trends.
  • Lead operational support for reforecasting cycles, validating assumptions and ensuring financial integrity of updates.
  • Ensure completeness, accuracy, and reliability of financial data used in planning and reporting.
  • Partner with IT stakeholders to align financial expectations with operational realities.

Project & Investment Financial Analysis:

  • Oversee development and validation of project cost estimates across labor, infrastructure, licensing, and vendor services.
  • Support and review business case financial modeling, ensuring assumptions are reasonable and aligned with governance standards.
  • Evaluate financial impacts of project alternatives and investment decisions.
  • Maintain alignment between project financials and intake/governance workflows.
  • Identify financial risks or inconsistencies in project proposals and escalate as needed.

Financial Operations, Controls & Reporting:

  • Maintain operational discipline in portfolio spend tracking and financial controls.
  • Oversee reconciliations and ensure audit-ready financial documentation.
  • Produce recurring financial reports and executive summaries.
  • Identify anomalies or irregularities in spend patterns and investigate root causes.
  • Ensure reporting accuracy and consistency across all financial outputs.

Vendor & Contract Financial Support:

  • Support financial validation of vendor proposals and contract structures.
  • Monitor vendor consumption and ensure alignment with budget forecasts.
  • Maintain accurate and complete financial documentation related to vendor engagements.
  • Partner with Procurement and Vendor Management on financial coordination.
  • Assist in financial review of renewals and pricing changes.

Process Improvement & Stakeholder Support:

  • Maintain and enhance standardized financial templates, trackers, and governance tools.
  • Lead operational execution of FinOps initiatives across the IT portfolio.
  • Drive process improvements that strengthen financial accuracy and workflow efficiency.
  • Provide structured financial partnership to IT stakeholders.
  • Reinforce adoption of financial governance standards across teams.

Other Functions:

  • Any other related functions/duties as assigned by management. Functions may vary based on project and Information Technology department needs.

Qualifications:

Education, Work Experience, Skills

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field.
  • 7–9 years of progressive experience in financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting, or IT financial operations.
  • Experience managing financial processes supporting technology organizations or IT portfolios.
  • Strong understanding of IT cost drivers including infrastructure, licensing, cloud consumption, labor, and project investments.
  • Demonstrated experience leading budgeting and reforecasting cycles.
  • Advanced financial modeling and reporting capability.
  • Experience supporting project financial governance and business case evaluation.
  • Strong collaboration with Finance, Procurement, and Vendor Management.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a portfolio environment.
  • Strong analytical problem-solving capability.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience mentoring or supervising analysts.

Preferred:

  • Experience with cloud cost management or FinOps concepts.
  • Experience reviewing vendor financial proposals or managed services contracts.
  • Exposure to structured project governance frameworks.
  • Consulting or professional services experience preferred.

Technologies/Software

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel proficiency.
  • Experience with financial systems and P2P platforms (e.g., Coupa).
  • Familiarity with reporting tools such as Power BI or equivalent.

Salary/Rate: $70-$85/HR (depends on experience level). This is a contract position with candidates expected to work 40 hours/ week. Upon conversion Salary would be $140,000 - $160,000 (depending on experience level), plus benefits.
